Change your profile, email or password

Updated

In this guide

Open your own profile to update your name and username. Changing your email requires verification; submitting the request alone does not change the address you use to sign in.

Update your profile

  1. Sign in to the account you want to change. On the website, open your profile; in the app, open the menu and tap Your profile at the top.
  2. In the profile information card, edit the name or username fields you need.
  3. Choose Save and check the saved values. A username must meet the rules shown in the form and be available.
  4. If you changed your username, copy a fresh profile link before sharing it. Do not assume an old profile URL redirects forever.

Profile photos and cover images have their own editing controls. Changing a profile does not transfer ownership of lists to another account.

Change your email address

  1. Open the email change control beside your current email in the profile information card.
  2. Enter the new address carefully and choose Send verification.
  3. Check that inbox and spam for the verification email. Until verification is complete, keep using your current sign-in details.
  4. Follow the verification page, including its password step, and finish the change.
  5. When signed out after completion, sign in with the new email and check My Lists.

If the email does not arrive or its link expires, return to your profile and follow the available retry instructions. Never forward the verification link to support or another person. A request for an address already in use may need support to investigate; creating another account does not merge your lists.

Reset a password or use Google or Apple

For an email/password account, use Forgot password? on the login page, or Reset password under Notifications & email → Account & security on your profile. If you originally used Google or Apple, use the same provider and account. You can also choose Add a password in that section to log in with your email as well; your Google or Apple sign-in stays connected. Do not assume a password reset changes your Google/Apple credentials or connects separate accounts.

Keep your birthday private

Your birthday can't be removed: it's required for your account, and it's how GiftList sends your own birthday reminder. You can keep it private instead.

  1. Open your profile. In the app, open the menu and tap Your profile at the top.
  2. In the Settings card, switch on Keep my birthday private, under Birthday.
  3. Choose Save. The Birthday field then shows Only you can see this.

Other people then won't see your birthday anywhere on GiftList, including on your profile when someone searches your username, and people who follow you stop getting birthday reminders about you. Nobody is told that you changed it. You still see your birthday on your profile and still get your own birthday reminder. Your birth year is never shown to others either way.

To share it again, switch the setting off and choose Save. Followers who had your birthday reminders on get them again, starting with the next one due.

A Birthday list's own date is separate: it stays visible to people who can see that list. Change or remove the date on the list if you'd rather not show it.

Dark mode

On the website, open your account menu and switch on Dark mode. In the app, open the menu and switch on Dark mode under Settings & help.

Related: Sign-in recovery, country and currency, account deletion. Contact support if you cannot access the old account; never send a password, verification code or recovery link.
