Choose who can find your list and add a password
Updated
In this guide
Show on my profile and in Groups controls where your list shows up inside GiftList: on your profile and in your Groups. Anyone with the direct list link can still open it. Use Password protect if you want visitors to enter a password before viewing it.
Choose profile visibility
- Sign in as the list owner and open the list's Settings.
- Find Privacy & access and Show on my profile and in Groups.
- Choose the visibility you want:
| Option | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Everyone | The list appears to people viewing your profile and in your Groups. |
| Friends only | Choose All friends (people who follow you) or Only certain people, where you can pick friends or whole groups. |
| Don't show it | The list stays off your profile and out of your Groups. A direct link still opens it. |
- Choose Save.
Following someone does not automatically mean that person follows you. The Friends only audience is based on who follows the owner, not simply everyone the owner follows.

Add or change a list password
- In the same Privacy & access card, find Password protect.
- Enter the password you want and choose Save. When a password is set, the card shows Password protection is active. Leaving the field blank keeps the current password; to turn protection off, choose Remove, then Save.
- Open the list link in a fresh signed-out browser and verify the password prompt.
- Give the password to the people you want to view the list.
Signed-in shoppers also need the list password. Recognized owners and collaborators can open the lists they manage without that visitor password prompt. It is separate from your GiftList account password. QR codes do not carry it. Someone who previously unlocked the list may have access remembered on that device, so use a fresh browser when testing.
Your address and other details
Anyone who can open the list can also see its gift delivery details, including a shipping address. A password hides them from visitors who don't have it, and so does turning off People can reserve items. Profile visibility does not. See delivery instructions.
What these settings do not promise
Hiding a list from your profile does not revoke links already sent. A password also cannot prevent an invited person from taking a screenshot or sharing information. GiftList marks personal list pages for search engines not to index, but that is not an access-control guarantee.
If a shopper can view but cannot claim, check People can reserve items and Stop accepting gifts on under Gifting. Those settings control shopping actions, separately from visibility. Only change settings for a list you manage.
