# GiftList FAQ

## What is GiftList?

GiftList brings wishlists, registries and Secret Santa exchanges together. Create a list, add gift ideas and share the link so people can shop and mark gifts purchased without creating an account.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## Is GiftList free to use?

GiftList is free to use. Cash funds and group gifts use external payment services, which may charge their own fees.

[Read the guide: Set up a cash fund or chip in on a group gift](https://giftlist.com/help/cash-funds-and-group-gifts)

## Someone shared a gift list with me. How do I buy and reserve items? Help me understand how GiftList works.

Open the shared list, choose an available gift and buy it at the retailer. Return to GiftList and choose Mark as purchased so other shoppers can see it is taken. No account is needed. The standard guest form asks for your name and email; confirmation email depends on a usable address.

[Read the guide: Buy a gift from a shared GiftList](https://giftlist.com/help/buy-from-a-shared-list)

## Do I need to create an account to use GiftList?

You need an account to create and manage lists and to join a Secret Santa exchange. You can shop and mark a gift purchased from a shared list without creating an account. The standard purchase form still asks for a name and email.

[Read the guide: Mark a gift as purchased: guest details and quantities](https://giftlist.com/help/mark-a-gift-purchased)

## Can I add items from any website?

You can add product links from different stores to one list. Automatic details may be incomplete or unavailable for a particular page; review them and add or edit details manually when needed.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## How can I add gifts to my list?

Add a product link, enter a gift manually, use the mobile saving tools or install the desktop browser extension. Review the item details and save to the intended list.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## Who can see my gift list?

Show on my profile controls how people discover the list. A direct list link still opens it. Add a list password when you want that extra access requirement; recognized owners and collaborators can bypass the password.

[Read the guide: Choose who can find your list and add a password](https://giftlist.com/help/list-privacy-and-passwords)

## How do I reveal my gifts and gift givers on my gift list?

Other shoppers can see that a gift is taken. The owner normally keeps the surprise until choosing Reveal gifts; then they can see recorded gifts and giver details. This is not permanent anonymity. Avoid sharing screenshots, confirmation emails or personal recovery links that could spoil the surprise.

[Read the guide: Keep gifts a surprise and reveal them when ready](https://giftlist.com/help/surprises-and-reveal)

## How can I unreserve a gift?

Use the unreserve link in your confirmation email or saved recovery link, or open the gift and use its release controls with the reservation email. A general email-based confirmation does not prove a claim was removed. Check the updated list; retailer cancellation is separate.

[Read the guide: Undo a reservation or purchased mark](https://giftlist.com/help/undo-a-reservation)

## How do I invite someone to edit my list?

Open the list’s collaborators controls, enter an email address or @username, select the intended person and choose Invite. A normal share link or group membership does not grant editing access.

[Read the guide: Invite someone to edit your gift list](https://giftlist.com/help/invite-list-collaborators)

## I want to buy a gift on someone’s list but I don’t have their address.

Check the delivery instructions supplied with the list. If the owner has not provided enough information, ask them before ordering. Enter the correct address at the retailer; GiftList does not place the order for you.

[Read the guide: Add a shipping address or gift delivery instructions](https://giftlist.com/help/delivery-instructions)

## My gift details did not get pulled in correctly.

Open the gift’s menu, choose Edit, correct the details and choose Save gift. Check the product link and any size or color notes as well as the name, price and image.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## I want to add a gift but I don't have a link.

Use the manual gift option and enter the idea and useful details without a product URL. For collecting money, use a cash fund rather than treating an ordinary gift note as a payment tool.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## How do I add an item to another list?

Use the gift menu’s Move to another list or Copy to another list action. Move keeps the same gift record; copy creates a separate item. Select the destination and check the result.

[Read the guide: Move or copy gifts to another list](https://giftlist.com/help/move-or-copy-gifts)

## How do I find my friends on GiftList?

Ask for the direct list link, or sign in and open Friends → Find Friends to search a first name, last name or username. Email search is not supported. Open the right profile and Follow to keep available lists handy; use its following control to unfollow. Visibility and passwords still apply.

[Read the guide: Find someone's list and follow or unfollow them](https://giftlist.com/help/find-friends-and-lists)

## How can I find someone else's gift list?

Ask for the direct list link, or look for a list the owner has made visible on their profile. A hidden list will not necessarily appear in profile discovery, and a password-protected list still needs its password.

[Read the guide: Find someone's list and follow or unfollow them](https://giftlist.com/help/find-friends-and-lists)

## Can I use GiftList to help me find gift ideas?

GiftList has gift-idea discovery tools. Available search and shopping features vary by country and platform. You can also save a product link or add an idea manually to your own list.

[Read the guide: Find gift ideas and save search results](https://giftlist.com/help/find-gift-ideas)

## I want to add gifts while browsing the web. How can I do that?

Use the desktop browser extension from GiftList’s official extension page. On a phone, use the GiftList app’s saving tools; iPhone Safari Share is a separate workflow.

[Read the guide: Save gifts with the GiftList browser extension](https://giftlist.com/help/browser-extension)

## Does GiftList have a mobile app?

GiftList has iPhone and Android apps. Use the official app links and keep the app updated; installed versions can have different controls from the current website.

[Read the guide: Save gifts to GiftList on iPhone](https://giftlist.com/help/save-gifts-on-iphone)

## I have feedback or suggestions on how to improve GiftList.

Send your feedback through Contact us. Include what you were trying to do and what would help.

[Contact us](https://giftlist.com/contact-us)

## I have another question that's not listed here.

Contact us with your question and the relevant device, browser and page. Do not send passwords, login codes or private reservation recovery links.

[Contact us](https://giftlist.com/contact-us)

## What makes GiftList different from other wishlist apps?

GiftList supports lists with gifts from different stores, sharing, purchase marks, imports, groups and Secret Santa. Choose the feature that fits your task; availability and saving details can vary by platform.

[Read the guide: Create a list and add or edit gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/create-a-list-and-add-gifts)

## Is GiftList secure and private?

Review list visibility and password settings before sharing. Profile visibility controls discovery, while direct-link access is separate. Other shoppers’ recorded purchases stay hidden on personal lists until revealed, with the notification qualifications explained in the guide.

[Read the guide: Choose who can find your list and add a password](https://giftlist.com/help/list-privacy-and-passwords)

## Can I import wishlists from other platforms?

Use Import to choose a supported source, paste its shared or public list URL, preview the items and import the ones you want. Supported sources are shown in the current importer. An import is a copy, not an ongoing sync.

[Read the guide: Import a wishlist or registry into GiftList](https://giftlist.com/help/import-a-wishlist)

## What payment options do guests have when purchasing gifts?

For store products, checkout happens at the retailer using that retailer’s payment methods. Cash funds and group gifts use the external payment service linked by the owner; check any provider fees and terms.

[Read the guide: Set up a cash fund or chip in on a group gift](https://giftlist.com/help/cash-funds-and-group-gifts)

## Can I use GiftList internationally?

You can save international product links, with manual editing if automatic details fail. Store availability, currencies, shipping and supported registry imports vary; saving a link does not guarantee delivery to another country.

[Read the guide: Change country or currency and use GiftList internationally](https://giftlist.com/help/country-and-currency)

## How do I delete my GiftList account?

Before deleting your account, transfer or delete any organization you own. Account deletion cancels your active exchanges as organizer, can change matches as a participant, and transfers owned family groups to an eligible active member or deletes groups with nobody eligible left. Open your profile Account section and choose Delete account only after reviewing these effects and the confirmation. Use support for access or data-request help; do not assume deletion can be undone or that every record disappears immediately.

[Read the guide: Delete your account or get help with a data request](https://giftlist.com/help/delete-your-account)

## Can I track special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries using GiftList?

Use Occasions to add dates and choose reminder timings. Also check your account notification preferences and device permissions.

[Read the guide: Add birthdays and other occasion reminders](https://giftlist.com/help/occasion-reminders)

## Can I create a cash fund on GiftList?

Create a cash fund with an available external payment method. Contributors send money through that service and record the contribution on GiftList. Recorded progress does not verify that a transfer settled.

[Read the guide: Set up a cash fund or chip in on a group gift](https://giftlist.com/help/cash-funds-and-group-gifts)

## Can multiple people chip in on a single gift?

Enable group gifting on an eligible priced gift. People can contribute using the linked payment service; the owner arranges the purchase. Undoing a contribution record does not refund a payment.

[Read the guide: Set up a cash fund or chip in on a group gift](https://giftlist.com/help/cash-funds-and-group-gifts)

## Does GiftList do Secret Santa or gift exchanges?

Yes. Create an exchange, invite participants, set exclusions and draw names. Participants sign in to view their match. Do not assume organizers can never infer pairings: management actions, exclusions and personal links can disclose information indirectly.

[Read the guide: Organize a Secret Santa exchange on GiftList](https://giftlist.com/help/organize-secret-santa)

## What's the difference between reserving a gift and marking it as purchased?

In the current GiftList purchase flow, reserving and marking purchased describe the same list update. It is separate from paying at the retailer and does not prove that an order was placed or shipped.

[Read the guide: Mark a gift as purchased: guest details and quantities](https://giftlist.com/help/mark-a-gift-purchased)

## What about returns, shipping, or "where's my order?"

Contact the retailer for order status, shipping changes, cancellations or returns. GiftList records the information a giver supplies; it does not fulfill store orders or independently verify tracking and purchase details.

[Read the guide: Shipping, missing orders, returns and gift receipts](https://giftlist.com/help/shipping-returns-and-receipts)

## How do I show people which gifts I want most?

Use Most wanted to show preferences. Pin to top and saved list order also affect placement, so a Most wanted mark does not guarantee the first position in every view.

[Read the guide: Organize your wishlist: priorities, tags and order](https://giftlist.com/help/organize-your-gifts)

## Can I organize the items on my list?

Use tags, pins and Rearrange to organize the list, and Select for available bulk actions. Move or copy gifts between lists, or archive a finished list when you want to keep it for later.

[Read the guide: Organize your wishlist: priorities, tags and order](https://giftlist.com/help/organize-your-gifts)

## Where can I see gifts I've received or purchased?

My Gifts has Purchased and Received views. Purchased matches recorded claims to your current account email, including guest claims made with that email. Received includes gifts from your lists after those lists are revealed. A purchased mark is not proof of delivery.

[Read the guide: Find purchased and received gifts in My Gifts](https://giftlist.com/help/my-gifts-purchased-and-received)

## Can GiftList help me find the best price?

Check the retailer’s current price, shipping and stock before buying. Any price shown with a gift can change; saving a product does not guarantee the lowest price or a particular checkout total.

[Read the guide: Understand price-drop alerts](https://giftlist.com/help/price-drop-alerts)

## Can I get notified when someone buys from my list?

Purchase notifications depend on your list settings, reveal settings and account preferences. On personal lists, detailed purchase information requires revealing gifts and the relevant email setting; a general first-gift heads-up is separate.

[Read the guide: Keep gifts a surprise and reveal them when ready](https://giftlist.com/help/surprises-and-reveal)

## Can I password-protect a list?

Show on my profile controls discovery, not direct-link access. Add a password in list Settings to gate shoppers who have the link. Owners and collaborators have access exceptions; joining a group or following someone does not grant editing permission.

[Read the guide: Choose who can find your list and add a password](https://giftlist.com/help/list-privacy-and-passwords)

## Can I create an event and send invitations?

Create an event invitation, add the details and RSVP settings, preview it and share the invite. You can attach a gift list and choose link-only or password access.

[Read the guide: Create an event invitation and invite guests](https://giftlist.com/help/create-an-event)

## Can I send a digital card?

Choose a card design, write a message, check the recipients and review the delivery summary. Some cards can be emailed; a copied card link still needs you to send it yourself.

[Read the guide: Create and send a digital card](https://giftlist.com/help/send-a-digital-card)

## What are groups on GiftList?

Groups bring family or friends’ lists and activity together. Joining a group needs an account and does not grant permission to edit every member’s list. List visibility and passwords still matter.

[Read the guide: Create or join a family group](https://giftlist.com/help/family-groups)

## How do I change my profile or email address?

Open your profile information card to edit your name or username and save. To change email, request verification at the new address and finish the verification/password steps; until then, use your current sign-in details.

[Read the guide: Change your profile, email or password](https://giftlist.com/help/change-account-details)

## How do I change my country or currency?

On your profile, open Settings, choose Country and Currency, then Save. Currency applies to lists you own, including existing lists. Prices are relabelled, not converted, so review amounts you entered manually.

[Read the guide: Change country or currency and use GiftList internationally](https://giftlist.com/help/country-and-currency)

## How do I manage members or leave a family group?

Open the group from Following and review People and Group settings. Available management actions depend on your role. Members can leave; the owner has a separate Delete group action. Read the confirmation before proceeding.

[Read the guide: Manage a family group or leave one](https://giftlist.com/help/manage-a-family-group)

## Can I make a list for a child or someone else?

Create a list in your own account, name it for the recipient and review sharing settings. You remain its owner. Invite trusted collaborators for editing; this does not create a child account or automatically transfer list ownership.

[Read the guide: Make a wishlist for a child or another person](https://giftlist.com/help/lists-for-another-person)

## Can I use GiftList in ChatGPT?

Connect GiftList where it is offered in ChatGPT and choose the intended list. Available actions depend on the connection and rollout; review proposed changes before confirming. It cannot buy gifts, send a list link for you or reveal hidden surprise purchases.

[Read the guide: Use GiftList in ChatGPT](https://giftlist.com/help/giftlist-in-chatgpt)

## How do price-drop alerts work?

Price-drop alerts are for eligible saved US Storefront products with sufficient price history. A qualifying drop is at least 10% and $5 below the usual price; notifications are limited to one a day and three in seven days, between 9am and 9pm local time. In Notifications & email, enable Price-drop alerts and the matching Onboarding and product updates consent, then Save preferences. Not every store or product is monitored; verify the retailer’s current price before buying.

[Read the guide: Understand price-drop alerts](https://giftlist.com/help/price-drop-alerts)

## Can I download my list as a spreadsheet?

On a computer, open the list Settings and its Spreadsheet card, then choose Export. The CSV is a snapshot; editing it does not update GiftList. A blank template does not establish that CSV upload is supported.

[Read the guide: Download a list as a spreadsheet](https://giftlist.com/help/export-a-list-spreadsheet)

## How do I edit or delete a Secret Santa exchange?

Open the exchange with the required management role and use its settings to edit details. Archive and delete are organizer actions. Deleting a live exchange can notify participants that it is cancelled; read the confirmation. Deletion does not cancel retailer purchases.

[Read the guide: Edit, archive or delete a Secret Santa exchange](https://giftlist.com/help/edit-or-delete-secret-santa)

## Do guests need an account to RSVP?

No. Guests can RSVP with their name without creating an account or providing an email address. Check the host’s RSVP and password settings. When guest RSVPs are visible, others can see names, responses and plus-one counts; notes and plus-one names are for the host.
