# Best Family Wishlist App 2026: Our Pick and Its Limits

**Our Pick:** GiftList is our pick for the best family wishlist app in 2026. One free app holds a family Group of up to 50 people, wishlists with gifts from any store, reservations hidden from you until you reveal them, a Secret Santa for up to 100 people, and group gifting and cash funds with no GiftList fee. Its limits: everyone in a Group or a Secret Santa needs a free account, and there are no child or managed accounts.

Our verdict: GiftList is the family wishlist app to start with in 2026 if you want your family's lists, a Secret Santa and shared gifts in one free place. We make GiftList, so this page says plainly what it doesn't do as well as what it does. To set one up now, start a free [family Group](https://giftlist.com/family-wishlist).

## GiftList at a glance

| Feature | What GiftList does | Limit to know |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Price** | Free | Gifts are bought from the stores you choose; payment apps may charge their own fees |
| **Family Groups** | Up to 50 people per Group, for the lists each person chooses to share | Every member needs a free account |
| **Wishlists** | Gifts from any store, by link, browser extension or the GiftList app | Product details don't always fill in, so some need a manual edit |
| **Reserving** | Relatives reserve a gift so others can see it's taken | Without an account, reserving works on the website and asks for a name and email |
| **Keeping the surprise** | Reservations and who made them stay hidden from you until you tap Reveal gifts | A reservation is what the giver told GiftList, not proof of a store purchase |
| **Secret Santa** | A separate exchange for up to 100 people, with exclusions, a budget guideline, Mystery Q&A and Santa Mail | At least three people to draw; each participant needs a free account |
| **Group gifting and cash funds** | Friends chip in through the Venmo, PayPal, Zelle or Cash App details you link, with no GiftList fee | GiftList doesn't process or hold the money |
| **Kids' lists** | A parent can keep a child's list in their own account | No child or managed accounts |
| **Platforms** | Web, iOS and Android | Some steps, such as reserving without an account, are web-only |

## Why GiftList is our pick for families

**One Group for the whole year.** Create a Group, copy its invite link or share it by WhatsApp, email or your phone's share menu, and everyone can find the wishlists each person chooses to share. A Group holds up to 50 people, and you can make separate Groups for each side of the family. It stays in place from one birthday to the next Christmas. Birthday reminders depend on relatives adding their birthday and on your reminder settings.

**Gifts from any store.** Each person keeps their own lists, one for Christmas and another for a birthday if they like, with gifts from any site. Paste a product link, save from the browser extension or browse inside the GiftList app, and add an item by hand when its details don't fill in.

**Reservations stay hidden from you.** Relatives reserve a gift so the rest of the family can see it's taken. Those reservations, and who made them, stay hidden from you by default while you're signed in. When you're ready, open your list's **Tracker** and tap **Reveal gifts**; tap **Hide these again** to hide them. Reservations help avoid duplicates; they can't make one impossible.

**A Secret Santa when it's time to draw names.** GiftList's [Secret Santa](https://giftlist.com/exchange) is its own exchange for up to 100 people, so cousins, in-laws or friends outside your Group can join. You can also start one from your Group's page, which fills in the Group's members. Set exclusions and a budget guideline, and each person sees only their own match. Each participant can link a wishlist or answer the Mystery Q&A, can send anonymous questions through Santa Mail after the draw unless the organizer turns it off, and can reveal who drew them on the exchange date.

**Chip in together.** Turn on group gifting for a bigger gift, or add a cash fund. People contribute through the payment details you link, and GiftList records the contributions people report, without charging a fee.

## What GiftList doesn't do

- **No child or managed accounts.** A parent can make and share a list for a child from their own account, but GiftList doesn't give children a separate profile that a parent manages.
- **Groups need accounts.** Creating, joining or accepting an invitation to a Group needs a free account, and a pending invitation isn't membership yet.
- **A Group doesn't open private lists.** Each person's list settings still decide what others see, and being in a Group doesn't let anyone edit your lists.
- **Account-free reserving is web-only.** It asks for a name and email. In the GiftList apps, people sign in first.
- **The Secret Santa needs accounts too.** Each participant needs a free account to see their match. GiftList shows each person only their own match, but doesn't promise the draw is hidden from the organizer.
- **How GiftList earns money.** GiftList is free to use. It earns commission on some product links and offers paid placements labeled Sponsored.

## How GiftList compares with Giftster

Giftster is a family wishlist app that says it has been running since 2009. Its App Store listing (checked October 16, 2026) describes a private family group, gifts from any store, reservations the list maker never sees, and lists members create and manage for children. It also describes a Secret Santa added to a Giftster group that stays secret "even from the organizer."

The two apps share the basics. Both are free, take gifts from any store and hide reservations from the person who made the list. GiftList lets a guest reserve on its website with a name and email, and Giftster's help center, in a 2024 archived copy, describes the same for guests on its public lists.

Four differences matter most for families, going by each app's own description:

- **Children's lists.** Giftster's App Store listing says members can create and manage lists for children. GiftList has no child accounts.
- **Secret suggestions.** Giftster's listing says members can secretly suggest gifts for someone else's list. GiftList has no equivalent.
- **Secret Santa.** Giftster's draw runs inside a group. GiftList's runs as a separate exchange that doesn't need a Group. Giftster says its draw is secret even from the organizer; GiftList doesn't make that promise.
- **Money.** Giftster's help center, in a 2024 archived copy, says it doesn't handle money, and members can add cash or gift cards to a list as items. GiftList has dedicated group gifting and cash funds linked to your payment methods. It doesn't handle the money either.

**How we checked:** GiftList's details were checked against its code on October 16, 2026. Giftster's come from its App Store listing, read the same day, and from archived copies of two of its help articles captured in 2024, because its website blocks automated checks. Those help details may have changed since. We didn't run a Giftster group hands-on.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the best family wishlist app in 2026?

GiftList is our pick, and we make it, so weigh that. One free app holds a family Group of up to 50 people, wishlists with gifts from any store, reservations hidden from the signed-in list owner until they reveal them, a Secret Santa for up to 100 people, and group gifting and cash funds with no GiftList fee. Everyone in a Group or a Secret Santa needs a free account, and there are no child or managed accounts.

### Does everyone in the family need a GiftList account?

To be in a Group, yes. Creating a Group, joining one and accepting an invitation all need a free account, and so does seeing your Secret Santa match. A relative who only wants to reserve a gift on a list shared with them can do it on the GiftList website with a name and email address, without an account. In the GiftList apps, they sign in.

### Can parents make wishlists for their kids on GiftList?

Yes, from the parent's own account. A parent can make a list for a child, add gifts from any store and share it with the family or a Group. GiftList has no child or managed accounts, so the child doesn't get a separate profile that the parent runs. Because a child's list lives in the parent's account, relatives' reservations on it are hidden from the parent too until the parent taps Reveal gifts.

### Will I see what my family reserved for me?

Not while you're signed in, unless you choose to. Gifts that relatives reserve, and who reserved them, stay hidden from you by default. Open your list's Tracker and tap Reveal gifts when you're ready; tap Hide these again to hide them. Gifts you mark as purchased yourself always show to you. A reservation records what the giver told GiftList, not a store purchase.

### How is GiftList different from Giftster for families?

Both are free, take gifts from any store and hide reservations from the list maker. Giftster's App Store listing says members can create and manage lists for children and secretly suggest gifts for someone else's list, and that its Secret Santa stays secret even from the organizer. GiftList has no child accounts and doesn't make that organizer promise. Its Secret Santa doesn't need a Group, and it has dedicated group gifting and cash funds linked to your payment methods, with no GiftList fee; Giftster members can add cash or gift cards to a list as items.

### Is GiftList free for families?

Yes. GiftList is free to use, and group gifting and cash funds carry no GiftList fee, though the payment app someone uses may charge its own. Gifts are bought from the stores you choose. GiftList earns commission on some product links and offers paid placements labeled Sponsored.
